Define the workload
Describe the applications, users, capacity needs and expected growth. Include performance or availability requirements that the design must meet. Separate current requirements from future expansion assumptions.
Check the surrounding environment
List the rack, power, cooling, cabling, network and management dependencies. Record available space, connector types and compatibility constraints. Include software licensing and support requirements in the same review.
Specify the exact configuration
For servers and storage, confirm processors, memory, drives, controllers, adapters, rails and support coverage. For networking, capture port, power, uplink, transceiver and management requirements. Ask the team to flag incomplete or incompatible configurations.
Coordinate delivery and installation
Confirm who will receive, rack, connect, configure and test the equipment. Identify change windows, access requirements and a rollback plan for the implementation. Treat an estimated lead time as something to confirm with the quote.
